From Waste to Wear: Primary 6 Students’ Upcycling Experience at Esquel’s Fabric Library

April 2025

During Project T, our Primary 6 students visited Esquel Group’s Fabric Library, where they explored the environmental impact of textile production and gained upcycling ideas. They discovered the harmful environmental consequences of traditional clothing dyeing processes, and learned about innovative solutions like waterless dyeing technology. The experience included hands-on activities where students upcycled used T-shirts into reusable tote bags and created vibrant designs using natural prints from flowers and leaves. They even transformed old men’s shirts into stylish skirts and vests, showcasing their creativity while embracing eco-friendly practices. This immersive learning opportunity not only deepened their understanding of textile upcycling, but also encouraged critical thinking about sustainable fashion. By witnessing real-world applications of green technology, the students gained valuable insights into how conscious consumer choices and solution-driven innovations can contribute to a more sustainable future.
