Mathematics and Science 2015-2016

Mathematics and Science

1. In the Hong Kong Technology Education Promotion Scheme, organised by Lingnan Dr. Chung Wing Kwong Memorial Secondary School, 9 students and their families from our school participated in the parent-child technology workshop on 22nd November 2015. Our girls had a chance to make wooden toy gliders to participate in a competition.

2. In the Robotics Relay Competition at InnoCarnival 2015, organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre, the School entered three teams into the competition. Two of our teams received 2nd runner up prizes and the other team received first prize among 25 primary school teams.

3.In the 2015-2016 Hong Kong Joint Primary School Mathematics Competition, organised by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University:

Isabella Wan and Ip Tsz Oi (Pr. 6) – Third Runner-up in the Overall Competition   

4. The Inter-School SUPER 24 Competition, organised by the Shun Tak Fraternal Association Seaward Woo College:

Janice Chui (Pr. 6) – Third Grade Honour
Alvina Tse (Pr. 6) – Third Grade Honour
Alicia Cheung (Pr. 6) – Third Grade Honour
Audrey Miu (Pr. 6) – Third Grade Honour
A certificate of appreciation was also presented to Diocesan Girls’ Junior School for participating in the competition.

5. In the World Class Tests Spring 2015 organized by the World Class Arean, Ip Tsz Oi (Pr. 6) was awarded ‘Most Outstanding Candidate’ in Problem Solving and our school achieved the ‘Most Outstanding Group Performance’ in the Primary Section.

6. In the 2015-2016 Hong Kong Joint Primary School Mathematics Competition organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the team comprising Isabella Wan (Pr. 6) and Ip Tsz Oi (Pr. 6) were the Champion in Problem Solving in Yau Tsim Mong District and they came third in the Hong Kong districts.

7. In the World Class Tests Spring 2016, twenty-one Primary 5 girls participated in the competition this year and they all received Distinction Awards in the Mathematics Section and Problem Solving Section.

8. In the Hong Kong Youth Mathematical Challenge 2016, Ip Tsz Oi (Pr. 6) was awarded the Second Runner-up and Gold Award in the Primary 6 section.  

Abby So (Pr. 5) and  Andrea Wong (Pr.3) were awarded the Gold Award.
Sheung Yui Yuen (Pr. 6), Wong Ka Yu (Pr. 5), Chow Tsz Yau (Pr. 4), Sherrie Lau (Pr. 4) and Hazel Lee (Pr. 3) were awarded the Silver Award.

Overall, the team was the Champion in this competition.

9. 2015 “Hua Xia Cup” National Mathematical Olympiad Competition, organised by the China Mathematics Education Research Association, the Hong Kong Mathematical Olympiad Association, the Hua Xia Cup Organizing Committee and the Education Mechanism Research Sub-Commission of Chinese Society of Education:

12. 2015 – 2016 Hong Kong Budding Scientists Award organised by the Gifted Education Section of Education Bureau. Scientific Project on ‘Can natural scrubs replace microbeads facial scrubs?’

13. 2015 – 2016 The Hong Kong Budding Innovators Award (Digital Media) organised by the Gifted Education Section of the Education Bureau:

14. Mass Mutual Junior Space Camp Programme 2016
After three rigorous rounds of selected tests organised by Mass Mutual Asia, Audrey Lai (Pr. 4) and Christina Chu (Pr. 5) were chosen as Junior Astronauts out of 2000 competitors. Together with their parent, Audrey and Christina attended a fully subsidised nine-day space exploration journey in the United States Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama and the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida at the end of July 2016.
