Maths & Science

1. 

In the “World Class Tests Spring 2012”, organized by the World Class Arena, Diocesan Girls’ Junior School achieved the “Most Outstanding Group Performance in Mathematics (Aged 8-11)”, and the “Most Outstanding Group Performance in Problem Solving (Aged 8-11)”.

2. 

In the “2013 World Class Arena Elite Competition”, organized by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Trumptech (Hong Kong) Ltd:

Michelle Chan (Pr. 6) and Charlotte Cheng (Pr. 6) – Gold Award

3. 

In the 9th Mathematics Creative Problem-Solving Competition for Primary Schools, DGJS was awarded the Bronze Prize in the Preliminary Round.  Members of the team were: Cheung Lok Yee (Pr. 6), Vennese Chan (Pr. 6), Lindsey Chan (Pr. 6) and Jess Mok (Pr. 6).

4. 

2012-2013 Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Invention Competition (Gifted Young Scientists Programme), organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre:

Yoyo Li and Jess Mok of Pr. 6 were awarded 3rd place for their invention: “Umbrella Stick”.  Their device was a retractable umbrella attached to a metal walking stick.  They hope their invention can help elderly people in their daily life.

2012-2013 Hong Kong Budding Scientist Award

Divina Yung (Pr. 6), Fion Tse (Pr. 6), Chan Pui Yung (Pr. 5) and Ng Sze Mai (Pr. 5)  successfully entered the final round of the Hong Kong Budding Scientists Award in March 2013. They are investigating the relationship between proper posture and wrist strength and eye strain.

The girls are busy preparing for their final presentation which will be held on 25th May 2013.

Mass Mutual Junior Space Camp Programme 2013

After three rigorous rounds of selection tests organized by Mass Mutual Asia, Woo Ho Tung of Pr. 3 was chosen as a Junior Astronaut out of 2000 competitors.  Together with her parent, Ho Tung attended a fully subsidized nine-day space exploration journey in the United States Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama and the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida at the end of July 2013.

Around 20 students and their family membersparticipated in the parent-child robotics workshop, organized by Lingnan Dr. Chung Wing Kwong Memorial Secondary School on 25 November 2012.  Our girls and their parents had a chance to
learn and work together on how to make a miniature windmill driven boat in the workshop.  This was a good opportunity for the girls to collaborate with their parents and explore the world of mechanics.
