2010-2011 Hong Kong Budding Scientists Award

Christine Chan (Pr.6), Ching Hou Yee (Pr.6), Jae Lamb and Celeste Wu (Pr.5) were awarded First Runner-up at the finals of the Hong Kong Budding Scientists Awards in June 2011.

Celeste Wu was awarded First Class Honour in the Science Knowledge Quiz. Christine Chan and Jae Lamb were awarded Second Class Honour in the Science Knowledge Quiz.

Mass Mutual Junior Space Camp 2011

After three rigorous rounds of selection tests organized by Mass Mutual Asia, Chloe Yeung of Primary 4 was chosen as a Junior Astronaut out of 2000 competitors.  Together with her parent, Chloe attended a fully subsidized nine-day space exploration journey in the United States Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama at the end of July 2011.

In the Hong Kong Technology Education Promotion Scheme 2010-2011 organized by Lingnan Dr. Chung Wing Kwong Memorial Secondary School, 24 students from our school joined the robotics workshop.  They learnt to construct 4-legged robots with the help of their parents to participate in a 1m-running competition.  In the competition, Celine Chan (Pr. 5) was awarded a merit prize in the parent-child primary student section.  She and her family received a trophy.

5 teachers from our school also joined the competition for the teacher group.  Miss E. Chan got the 4th place in the final ranking.  Mrs. M. Leung was awarded the “Outstanding Award in Technology Practice for Teachers”.  They both received trophies for their efforts.

The 25th China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest, organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre:
Our School received the “Best Organization Award”.

2010-2011 Hong Kong Youth Science Technology Invention Competition (Gifted Young Scientists Programme), organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre:

Viann Chiu and Serena Tsui of Pr. 5 were awarded a merit prize for their investigation on rusting.  The girls’ project was chosen amongst 6000 participants.

2010-2011 Hong Kong Youth Science Fiction Writing Competition, organized by Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre:

Documentary for Professor Vivian Yam (Foundation L’Oreal – UNESCO – For Women In Science 2011)

Five students from Pr. 2 and Pr. 3 were given the opportunity to take part in the filming of a documentary about Professor Vivian Yam (alumna) as a tribute to her being named one of the laureates “Women in Science for 2011 – Foundation L’Oreal-UNESCO”.  Our girls were filmed together with 5 boys from St. Paul’s College Primary School.

The documentary was broadcast at the awards ceremony in March 2011 and was available on the Foundation’s website.

The 8th Innovative Science Contest – Hong Kong Primary School Inter-School Contest “Need for Solar Speed” , organized by Fukien Secondary School:

12 girls participated in the above competition.  One of our teams received the overall champion.  This competition involved students designing a device to maximize absorption of solar energy to charge batteries which were used to operate a toy car.  The results were based on the number of rounds completed by the cars until the batteries ran out.  Our School team set the competition’s record for completing 350 rounds.
