    11 girls from our School were on the 27-members team representing Kowloon West Area in this competition.

    B. Athletics

    2. Selection Trial for the Hong Kong Primary School Athletics Competition:

    • 5C Dana Tsoi - 1st in B Grade 200m

    The C Grade relay team came first.  Team members were Tsang Wing Yi (Pr. 4A), Lorraine Tang (Pr. 4B), Tiffany Tang (Pr. 4B), Audrey Osborn (Pr. 4C) and Jasmine Pannu-Yuon (Pr. 4C).

3. Hong Kong Inter-Area Primary School Athletics Competition:

Some of our athletics team members were selected to represent the schools in Kowloon West Area in this competition:

A Grade: Michelle Wong (Pr. 6) - Third in A Grade 60m                    

B Grade: Dana Tsoi (Pr. 5) - Third in B Grade 200m                    

C Grade: The relay team came first in the 4 x 100m relay.
The Kowloon West Area Team was awarded a trophy for being the champion in the C Grade Section.

4. HK Junior Athletics Championships organized by HK Chinese Athletics Club:
                    

    Tiffany Tang (Pr. 4) came third in Girls’ C Grade 60m
    Vanessa Tang (Pr. 2) came first in Girls’ E Grade 60m and 100m

C. Table Tennis

1. Kowloon West Area Inter-Primary Schools Table-Tennis Competition:

  • Girls A Grade – Champion
  • Girls B Grade – Champion
  • Outstanding Table Tennis Players – Tiffany Wong (Pr. 6), Minnie Soo (Pr. 5) and Vanness Leung (Pr. 4)      

2. Minnie Soo of  (Pr. 5) and Tiffany Wong (Pr. 6) represented Hong Kong in the  Swedish Junior International Table Tennis Championship in Sweden.  They came third in the girls’ doubles in their age group.

In the singles match, Minnie Soo (Pr. 5) made it to the quarter-final.
Tiffany Wong (Pr. 6) came third.

3. Table Tennis Championships for the New Generation, organized by the Hong Kong  Table Tennis Association:

  • Karisa Lee (Pr. 1) – second
  • Jocelyn Ho (Pr. 2) – third
  • Karisa Lee also won four more championships in other table tennis competitions organized by the Recreation and Cultural Services Bureau.

4. Open Table Tennis Team Championship organized by the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association:

I. The School was awarded the Gold Cup for outstanding overall sports achievements in the Kowloon West District for the 2008/2009 school year.  A special Gold Cup was also awarded to the School for being the Overall Champion for the twentieth year running.  The award was presented by the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation.

J. Tiffany Wong (Pr. 6) won the A.S. Watson Group HK Student Sports Award.

G. “Project for Primary Students Gifted in Chinese Language” Competition, commissioned by the Curriculum Development Institute, Education Bureau to the Primary School Chinese Language Education Research Association:

Chantel Chan of Pr. 6 won the Gold Prize and was awarded a 5-day study tour for primary students gifted in Chinese to educational bodies in China.  She also won the Best Performance in Speech Award and Silver Prize for Creativity in Performance.
Alicia Ho of Pr. 6 and Amee Chu of Pr. 6 won the Bronze Prize.

H. In the gala performance of The Taming of the Shrew organized by Shakespeare4All Company Limited at the Kwai Tsing Theatre Auditorium in October 2008, Christina Wong of Pr. 6A was successfully selected to play the leading female role, the shrew.  More than 21 primary and secondary schools participated in this joint school performance.

I. Our Shakespeare4All Drama Club was invited to participate in the Shakespeare4All Celebration at Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre on 5th July 2009, in which a 1-hour version of Julius Caesar was performed.

Q. Australian Mathematics Competition 2008

The Australian Mathematics Competition is an annual international competition organized by the Australian Mathematics Trust in Australia.  Its aim is to give students an opportunity to discover talent in mathematics.  Unlike formal examinations in mathematics, many of the problems are set in situations to which students can relate, indicating the relevance of mathematics in their everyday lives.

R. Smart Mathematics Brain Contest 2008-09, organized by Smart Education Co. Ltd. and HKEdCity in December 2008 and January 2009:

Over 100 primary schools and 100,000 students participated in this contest.

S. In the 2009 Hong Kong & Macau Mathematical Olympiad Open Contest, organized by the Hong Kong Mathematical Olympiad Association, Annie Lee (Pr. 1) was awarded the Individual Event Silver Honour for Pr. 1-2.

T. Annie Lee (Pr. 1) won the Third Grade Honour for Grade Two in the Preliminary Round of the 2009 Hua Ha Cup Mathematics Competition (“華夏盃” 數學奧林匹克初賽) organized by China Aoshuzhixing Teaching Research Association(華夏奧數之星教育研究學會).

U. 4 groups of primary five girls entered the Yau Tsim Mong Primary School Mathematics Competition.  All 4 groups were awarded Second Grade Honour.  These 4 groups are as follows:

Group 1 - Nicole Chan, Chu Pui Wa, Sophia Yau
Group 2 - Jacqueline Chan, Gigi Cheng, Nicole Leong
Group 3 - Tiffany Cheung, Ho Man Chun, Ng Cheuk Lam

V. In the 2009 Grandprix Mathematics Competition (Primary 3-4) organized by Mathematics Adventure Platform, Hong Kong School Net, Christy Leung (Pr. 4) came second.

W. In the 5th Hong Kong Primary School Problem Solving Competition organized by the Gifted Education Section of EDB and the Federation of Education Workers Hong Kong, the group with Charlotte Tang (Pr. 6), Lau Hiu Ching (Pr. 6), Natalie Ng (Pr. 6) and Catherine Lung (Pr. 6) won the First Round Bronze Prize.

X. Hilary Ngai (Pr. 6), Lau Hiu Ching (Pr. 6), Laurice Wong (Pr. 5) and Tse To (Pr. 5) successfully entered the final round of the Hong Kong Budding Scientist Award in April 2009.  They proposed to solve the problem of light pollution in Hong Kong.

On 25th April, the girls finished the final round.  They were the 2nd runner-up.

Y. 2008-2009 Hong Kong Youth Science Technology Invention Competition (Gifted Young Scientists Programme):

Six girls from primary six were awarded prizes in the 2008-2009 Hong Kong Youth Science Technology Invention Competition organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre.  The girls’ projects were chosen amongst 6000 different participants.

Catherine Lung (Pr. 6) was awarded the second runner-up for her investigation report on whether vinegar, cinnamon and baking soda are useful in keeping ants away.
Lau Hiu Ching (Pr. 6) was awarded the third runner-up for her invention: 現代健康無煙金字塔式多功能燒烤爐
Sarah Wong and Christina Wong (Pr. 6), Natalie Ng (Pr. 6) were awarded third runner-up for their investigation report on what designs make good bridges.
Siu Yau King (Pr. 6) was awarded the third runner-up for her investigation report on the strength of hair.
The girls won trophies and scholarships.
The School received an award for participation.

Z. In a parent-child technology workshop organized by Lingnan Dr. Chung Wing Kwong Memorial Secondary School, around 100 students from different primary schools participated in a “hand-launched glider” competition with the help of their parents.  They had to design and construct hand-launched gliders with Styrofoam.

In the competition Sarah Wong (Pr. 6) and Lau Hiu Ching (Pr. 6) were awarded merit prizes.  Their gliders could fly more than 8.6 metres.  Moreover, Emily Wan (Pr. 6) was awarded the Best Parent-Child Co-operation Award.  Lau Hiu Ching (Pr. 6) was also awarded the Best Design Award for her glider.  The girls and their families received trophies for encouragement.

AA. EatSmart@school.hk Campaign (a territory-wide healthy eating campaign), launched by the Department of Health in 2008/09:

The school received the 1st Honour Gold Prize in the School NutriAgent Project for enthusiastic promotion of healthy-eating habits.

AB. In the 2nd Oromedia Cup International Amateur Go Invitation Championship, the team with Christine Chan (Pr.4), Fontaine Tse (Pr. 4) and Vanessa Yan (Pr. 4) won the championship (Women Team) in the Primary School Division.

AC. The 24th China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre:

Our School received the “Best Organization Award”.
